What is the CNMI America250 Commission About?
The CNMI America250 Commission is a dedicated body established to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of events and activities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) in observance of a significant national milestone—the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence on July 4, 2026. As the nation prepares for this monumental occasion, the Commission’s role is to ensure that the CNMI plays an active and meaningful part in the nationwide celebration. By organizing a series of cultural, educational, and civic events, the Commission aims to create a space for the community to come together, reflect on the shared history, and honor both the United States’ founding and the unique contributions of the CNMI to the broader American story. The Commission's activities are intended to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Northern Mariana Islands while fostering a deeper sense of pride, unity, and historical awareness among residents. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the CNMI’s commemoration of America's 250th anniversary is not only memorable but also reflective of the diverse communities and traditions that make up the Commonwealth.
In pursuit of this mission, the Commission will work closely with local government agencies, community organizations, cultural institutions, the private sector, and other key stakeholders to create a comprehensive program of events that resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds. This will include everything from educational workshops and exhibitions to cultural performances, parades, and large-scale festivals. By engaging the public in various ways, the Commission will help bring awareness to the significance of this national milestone while also fostering a sense of inclusivity and community spirit throughout the CNMI.
The CNMI America250 Commission was formally established through Executive Order No. 2024-007, signed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands on the 8th day of August, 2024. This executive order provided the legal foundation for the formation of the Commission, outlining its structure, responsibilities, and authority to carry out its mission effectively.
